OUR

FAITH

MyFriend is a Christian organization. Our faith is not simply a part of our work—it is the foundation for why and how we serve.

Jesus taught that the greatest commandments are to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind, and to love our neighbor as ourselves. These truths shape our understanding of who God is, who we are, how we are called to live, and how we are to love and serve others.

We recognize that there are many compassionate individuals from all walks of life who have a genuine desire to serve others and make a difference. We deeply value that spirit of generosity and service. For MyFriend, however, our calling to serve is rooted in our relationship with Jesus Christ and our desire to reflect His love through our actions.

Because our volunteers represent MyFriend and carry out our mission through personal relationships with seniors, we believe it is important that we share a common foundation of faith. This shared commitment helps ensure that our service is guided by the same biblical principles of love, humility, compassion, and putting others before ourselves.

Our Christian faith guides those who serve through MyFriend, while our mission is to extend genuine friendship, compassion, and care to seniors of all backgrounds and beliefs.

The following Statement of Faith summarizes the biblical beliefs that guide our mission, values, and work. We ask all prospective volunteers to carefully review these beliefs and affirm their alignment before serving with MyFriend.

Matthew 22:37–39; John 13:34–35; 1 John 3:18

The Bible

We believe the Bible is the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God. Scripture reveals who God is, His love for humanity, His plan of salvation, and His truth for how we are to live.

2 Timothy 3:16–17; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; Psalm 119:105; John 17:17

God

We believe there is one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is the Creator of all things and is worthy of our worship, obedience, and love.

Genesis 1:1; Matthew 28:19; John 10:30; Ephesians 4:4–6

Humanity, Sin & Our Need for God

We believe every person is created in the image of God and therefore possesses inherent dignity and value. We also believe that all people are sinners, separated from God by sin, and unable to save themselves.

Our greatest need is reconciliation with God—a need that cannot be satisfied through good works, morality, religion, or our own efforts.

Genesis 1:27; Romans 3:23; Romans 5:12; Romans 6:23; Isaiah 59:2; Ephesians 2:8–9

Jesus Christ & Salvation

We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God and is fully God and fully man. We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, sacrificial and atoning death on the cross, bodily resurrection, ascension to the Father, and His promised return.

Although we are sinners, God loves us and provided the way for us to be reconciled to Him through Jesus Christ. Jesus willingly bore the penalty for our sin on the cross and rose from the dead, defeating sin and death.

We believe salvation is a gift of God's grace, received through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus is the only way to reconciliation with God and eternal life.

Matthew 1:23; John 1:1–4, 14; John 14:6; Acts 2:22–24; Acts 4:12; Romans 5:8; Romans 10:9–10; 1 Corinthians 15:3–4; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Ephesians 2:8–9

Eternal Life

We believe eternal life is God's gift through Jesus Christ. Those who place their faith in Christ receive forgiveness and eternal life with God. Scripture also teaches the reality of judgment and eternal separation from God for those who reject Him.

Our hope is therefore not ultimately found in our circumstances, health, accomplishments, or even the length of our earthly lives, but in Jesus Christ and the promise of life with Him.

John 3:16–18; John 5:24; John 11:25–26; Romans 6:23; 1 John 5:11–12

The Sacredness of Human Life

We believe every human life is sacred and worthy of dignity, compassion, and respect from conception through natural death because every person is created in the image of God.

A person's value is not determined by age, health, independence, ability, productivity, social status, or what they can offer others. Human worth comes from God.

This belief especially shapes the work of MyFriend. We believe older adults—including those experiencing illness, disability, memory loss, dependency, or the end of life—remain people of immeasurable value who deserve to be seen, loved, respected, and cared for.

Genesis 1:27; Psalm 139:13–16; Isaiah 46:4; Matthew 10:29–31

God's Purpose for Our Lives

We believe God intentionally created each person and that our lives have meaning and purpose in Him. We are God's workmanship, created to glorify Him and to do the good works He has prepared for us.

God has given His people different gifts, abilities, experiences, and opportunities, and Scripture calls us to faithfully use what He has entrusted to us for His glory and for the good of others.

Our purpose does not disappear with age or changing circumstances. At every stage of life, a person remains known and valued by God.

Psalm 139:13–16; Isaiah 43:7; Ephesians 2:10; Romans 12:4–8; 1 Peter 4:10–11; Colossians 3:17, 23–24

Marriage and God's Design

We believe God created humanity as male and female, both equally made in His image and equally possessing God-given dignity and worth. We believe our identity, bodies, sexuality, and relationships are ultimately subject to God's design and authority. We believe God established marriage as the covenant union of one man and one woman.

Genesis 1:27; Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:4–6; Mark 10:6–9

Loving God & Loving Others

We believe Jesus calls us first to love God and then to love our neighbor as ourselves. Love for others is not merely an emotion or good intention—it is demonstrated through our actions.

Biblical love is patient and kind. It is humble, forgiving, compassionate, selfless, and willing to sacrifice for the good of another. Jesus demonstrated the greatest expression of love by laying down His life for us, and He calls His followers to love others in a way that reflects Him.

We are called to treat others as we would want to be treated and to extend love not only to those who are easy to love, but also to strangers, those who are different from us, and even those who may not love us in return.

Matthew 22:37–39; Matthew 7:12; Luke 6:27–36; John 13:34–35; John 15:12–13; 1 Corinthians 13:4–7; 1 John 3:16–18

Serving Others

We believe followers of Jesus are called to serve rather than simply be served. Jesus modeled humble, selfless service throughout His life and taught His followers to do the same.

Christian service is not about recognition, status, or obligation. It flows from genuine love for God and people. We are called to use the gifts God has given us to care for others, welcome the stranger, encourage the lonely, help those in need, and faithfully steward the opportunities God places before us.

At MyFriend, this means approaching every person we serve with love, humility, patience, compassion, and a servant's heart.

Matthew 20:26–28; Matthew 25:35–40; John 13:12–15; Galatians 5:13; Philippians 2:3–5; 1 Peter 4:10; Colossians 3:23–24

Caring for the Vulnerable, Lonely & Aging

We believe Scripture repeatedly calls God's people to notice and care for those who may be vulnerable, overlooked, lonely, sick, widowed, or in need.

The Bible specifically commands families and the church to honor and care for older generations and widows. It also calls us to encourage one another, bear one another's burdens, practice hospitality, and be present with those who are suffering.

These teachings are central to the heart behind MyFriend. We believe no person should be treated as forgotten or insignificant because of age, illness, loneliness, or changing abilities. Through simple acts of presence, friendship, encouragement, prayer, and service, we seek to demonstrate the love of Christ in tangible ways.

Leviticus 19:32; Psalm 68:5–6; Matthew 25:35–40; Romans 12:10–13; Galatians 6:2; 1 Timothy 5:3–4; James 1:27; 1 Thessalonians 5:11

Living Out Our Faith

Ultimately, we believe Christian faith should be visible in the way we live and love.

We will not do this perfectly. We depend upon God's grace and the work of the Holy Spirit to continually shape us to become more like Christ. As we serve, we seek to walk in humility, extend grace, speak truth in love, forgive freely, act with integrity, and put our faith into action.

At MyFriend, our desire is simple: to love God, love people, and faithfully serve those He places before us—not merely with words, but through our actions and in truth.

Micah 6:8; Matthew 5:16; Galatians 5:22–23; Ephesians 4:1–3, 15; Philippians 2:3–5; James 2:14–17; 1 John 3:18
